Richard (Rick) Huether
Independent Can Company
After graduating from Thiel College (’74) with a degree in business administration, Huether began pursuing his MBA at Bowling Green State University. In 1975, while attending graduate school, he received a job offer from Maryland-based Independent Can Company (ICC) which was founded in 1929 and been owned by the family since 1948. ICC is a manufacturer of specialty decorative and industrial tins with three can manufacturing plants in the United States and is headquartered in Belcamp, MD.
He began working at ICC as a sales representative, a position he held for 13 years. Huether has worked in the family business, not including his summer work as a student, for 36 years in various capacities in sales and marketing, manufacturing and currently as President and CEO (1997). He is the third generation of his family to hold that position.
He is a past president of the International Packaging Association, as association of global manufacturers of tin cans, and a former member of Vistage, an organization of company Presidents and CEOs. He was a member of the Thiel College Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2008 and returned to the Board 2010 and currently serving.
Huether lives in Lutherville, MD., with his wife of 32 years. They have three children.
